In a world plagued by disasters, highly competitive economies, relationship strains, religious rifts, identity crises and general uncertainties about the future, it is no wonder that mental distress is on the rise. One incident after another could easily lead up to mental instability especially among the youth.
I had the pleasure of interacting with one riot of a lady recently. Trust me when I say that her vibe is one to reckon with but aside from her rad personality, she shared a story with me that I felt compelled to bring home.
A lot of people keep asking why I chopped off my mane. Some hardly recognize me in my ‘Tiny-Winy-Afro’ while out and about on the streets. I big chopped in March, 2016 largely due to the extensive heat damage that continuously and gradually threatened my hairline. In my 22 years of life, I have never relaxed my hair but I quickly learnt that heat damage is just as terrible as chemical damage. My mane had become weak, strandy, short and as soon as I saw it befitting
My father loved to caution that evil lurks in the dark, still does. Totally out of context with this post because he only used to tell me that to keep me in toe as a teenager, but it’s true. Evil does lurk in the dark and more often than not, it is closer to us than we tend to think. I’ve been hiding from the world (okay, I have been at my parents’ house) but still, it is far away enough from the rest of my normal world to be considered hiding. Unfortunately, no matter how far I run, there is a monster under my bed out to get me. I was in denial but I am definite that I am ailing from a good douse of fear..
An inspirational woman once said,” Leadership is about fighting today’s battles so that the next generation does not have to.” Mentorship is no different from that quote. A mentor- mentee relationship is created with the intention of a senior professional being a guide to an inexperienced junior so as to help them develop and grow in a particular field of interest. If approached well, it can be a great guiding tool especially for the youth.
In my lifetime, I have had the opportunity of meeting and engaging with amazing men (some of whom I still talk to and hold a friendship with and others…well, let’s not go there). I am also the type of girl who believes that you cannot fall in-love with just one person. People come and go but you still love after. Currently, and for the past 6 months, I have undertaken to cleanse myself and be single for quite some time but while with my exes, I fell in-love with each one. Deeply and passionately.
